What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

A film distributor is a company that is responsible for the marketing of a film , and in getting in to cinemas, stores and devices, potentially worldwide. They help in getting the film onto DVDs and Blue Rays and they also plan when and where the film will be shown on TV.

Our film is primarily targeted at females over 35 and the secondary being males over 35 which means it will be reasonable for use to use a major distributor and after our research, we decided to use the New Line Cinema distributor, which is in a merger with Warner Bros because it has produced many thriller/suspense film, for example: Passenger 57 and One Missed Call. The majority of the films they have helped produce have all been huge success.

These companies help distribute 2 of the 3 film that helped us the most in our production, which are Inception, which had a production budget of: $160,000,000, and I think this is reasonable because of all the effects used furthermore, they had a box office of:$832,584,416 which is over 5 times the production budget, also the second film was Se7en, this film had a production budget of: $30,000,000 and had a box office of $328,125,643which is over 10 times the budget.

If we had New Line Cinema as our distributor, we would have a roughly the same budget as Se7en because due to the fact there is a good chance of us having a high box office, just like the others and it will go to a multiplex cinema, like Odeon because I think its on of the best cinemas and a lot of people visit it also since our target audience is over 35 females and males, majority of them will be able to get to a near Odeon cinema.

However, if we only had a low budget, our film could still be successful just like some other low budget, for example a . small budget film that is now one of the most successful film is Paranormal Activity 3. This film had a small budget of $5 million and managed to make a total of: $207 million worldwide. Paranormal Activity 3 was distributed by Paramount Pictures which is located in Hollywood California

As you can see, these film are all well known and have all be huge success, especially films like:

1. Blood Diamond had a worldwide box office of: $171,377,916 
2. Argo made a huge worldwide box office of: $221,300,694

Since our film will be mainstream, I think it will be best for us to promote our film so that our target audience will be able to see it a lot, we should put adverts on YouTube so that as many people can see it also for reaching our target audience better, we can put adverts in the newspapers and magazines, I think these are the 2 best ways of reaching our target audience of over 35 females and males and this is what most of them read on the way to work or on a public transport
